This Week’s Intercessions
The response for our Intercessions this week is:
Lord of the Harvest, hear our grateful prayer,
As we share the bounty of Your creative love.
Holy you are our creator and giver of all things good. We look upon the fields where the crops grow in a huge abundance under your watchful eye and with the toil of the farming community. We give our humble thanks as we celebrate another harvest. Keep us mindful of those places that struggle with drought and poor soil. In our gratitude may we find ways of sharing your bounty with those in need, near and far. As we approach World Food day, we pray for food justice in this world. We are so reminded of the work of food banks, school lunches, and soup kitchens, as well as those who offer themselves to work there. We pray too for all those involved in the very long food chain that brings food to our tables. Keep all who work in these areas safe in the daily work.
For Peace and Reconciliation - We pray for calm and a cooling of hostilities in many places around the world. We hold up to you the people of Haiti. We pray for those who are traumatized by war between nations particularly between Russia and Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, Lebanon, and what seems to be an ever-widening regional conflict. We pray for political leaders that they may truly offer themselves for the good of their people and cooperate with one another within their nations and with their neighbours for the wellbeing of all.
For the Communities We thank you for our communities of Delta, Surrey, and other surrounding communities where we live remembering too, those who work on farms found here. We pray your blessing on all forms of leadership amongst us that we may live for one another, particularly as we care and give support to the homeless, the addicted, the unemployed, and others in need amongst us, yet go unseen. We give thanks for our multicultural community and pray for opportunities to grow in our knowledge and understanding of one another.
The Church – We seek the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide your church all around the world; remembering our companion Diocese: The Episcopal Diocese of Northern Philippines, for Bishop Benny Lang-akan, clergy, & people. Our twinned parishes: St. Bede, Panabungen & St Luke, Maliten – The Rev. Albino Fag-ayan. We pray for strength, renewal, insight, and loving care.
In the Wider Church and in the Anglican Communion – May your Spirit guide and protect churches and go before them as they share the Gospel. We pray for the Episcopal Church in the Philippines and for the Anglican Church in South Sudan. We ask you to bless the work and witness of charities that carry out loving work - for ‘Sleeping Children Around the World’, International China Concern, HOPE International, Young Life, for PWRDF of our own Anglican Church of Canada and for the Cdn Food Grains Bank. Bless all those who seek to end hunger, build community, and work for justice in this world.
